About our decks & covered porches work
Pergolas, railing-only installations, individual board replacement, staining, and deck repairs are outside our standard paid-project focus. Our existing service area includes the Clinton-to-Bolivar corridor and approved nearby communities.
Material choice matters as much as design: pressure-treated lumber costs less up front but needs periodic staining or sealing, while composite decking costs more initially but requires very little maintenance over the years. We'll walk through both options honestly, including how they hold up to sun exposure and Missouri's humidity, rather than pushing whichever is more profitable for us.
ADA ramp options are available on request. Ramps can also be planned around the owner's preferences, subject to applicable code and project requirements.

How the job runs, start to finish
Step 1
Site visit
We look at the house, grade, sun exposure, and how you plan to use the space, and talk through layout and material options.
Step 2
Written scope and quote
The quote specifies decking material, footing depth, railing style, and any roof or screen structure for covered porches.
Step 3
Scheduling and materials
Lumber, composite decking, or roofing materials for covered structures are ordered and the build is scheduled around weather.
Step 4
Build
Footings are set below frost depth, framing goes up, then decking, railings, and any roof or screen enclosure are installed.
Step 5
Final walkthrough
We walk the finished structure with you, check railings and stairs for stability, and confirm everything matches the agreed scope.
Materials and methods
What to think about before you build
Pressure-treated vs. composite decking
Pressure-treated wood costs less up front but needs regular sealing or staining and will eventually need boards replaced; composite decking costs more initially but resists rot and fading with minimal upkeep.
Footing depth
Deck support posts need footings set below the local frost line so freeze-thaw cycles don't heave the structure over time — this is one of the most important and least visible parts of a deck build.
Covered vs. open structures
A covered deck or porch adds usable shade and rain protection and requires roof structure and drainage planning as part of the complete construction scope.
Railing code requirements
Height and baluster spacing for railings are governed by code for safety, especially on elevated decks — we build to those requirements rather than treating them as optional.

Is composite decking worth the extra cost?
It depends on how much upkeep you want to do. Composite costs more up front but needs little more than occasional cleaning, while pressure-treated wood is cheaper initially but needs periodic sealing and eventual board replacement.
Do you build covered decks and porches?
We build new covered decks and porches as complete construction projects. Railings and other components are included where the project scope calls for them; minor repairs and standalone railing work are not our paid-project focus.
Do ADA ramps need to meet a specific slope?
Yes. Ramps have slope and landing requirements, and applicable code and project requirements are confirmed for each specific project. A ramp can be planned around the owner's preferences within those requirements.
How deep do deck footings need to be in Missouri?
Footings need to go below the local frost depth, which varies somewhat by area; we'll confirm the appropriate depth for your specific site and county requirements.
How long does a typical deck project take?
It depends on size, material choice, and weather. We'll give you a realistic estimate once we've finalized the design and scope.
